Flute - Clarinet - Saxophones - Piano
Steven Grant Jr. grew up watching his father play saxophone in New York City from a very young age. While he was still in NYC, he was playing drums at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music at the ages of 7-9 years old. When his family moved to Orlando, Florida he began focusing on his woodwind playing. During high school, Steven was awarded the Most Outstanding Woodwind Player every single year, and then graduated University High School Cum Dignitate with a scholarship for outstanding jazz musicianship. While still in high school, Steven began his Dual Enrollment studies at Valencia College and was performing with their Symphonic and Jazz bands at a high level. He played numerous concerts for both Valencia College bands while continuing his marching, symphonic and jazz band studies in high school.
After graduating high school, Steven finished his studies at Valencia College and received his Associates in Arts in 2019. While there, he focused his studies on the Baritone, Tenor, and Alto saxophones, the Clarinet, and Piano. Steven received numerous recommendations from the Valencia Performing Arts department, and afterwards joined Jeff Rupert and the Flying Horse Big Band at the University of Central Florida to finish his Bachelors in Jazz Studies. Steven has studied under many great musicians in his young career; such as Jeff Rupert, Tom Dietz, Jeremy Fratti, Joshua Senften, Gabe Carson, Frank Wozar, Gary Listort, Michelle Mailhot and Elisabeth Withers. In 2020, Steven won the Central Orlando Jazz Society Scholarship.
